Columbia Memorial Hospital | Health Compass | Fall 2021

On July 1, CMH transitioned radiologist coverage from our previously contracted group, Pacific Coast Imaging, to OHSU’s Department of Diagnostic Radiology. Three full-time CMH-OHSU radiologists are now working here in Astoria. We want to thank Ali Batouli, MD, and Hugh Sabahi, MD, for their dedicated service over the past several years. They both decided not to join OHSU in the transition. Dr. Batouli, who was with Pacific Coast Imaging for three years, moved back to the East Coast to continue his practice. Dr. Sabahi retired at the end of June after 25 years of work in this community. There is no doubt that his time and expertise helped our organization grow. Our new local radiologist group consists of Kenneth Kolbeck, MD, PhD; Shane Baker, MD; and Robert Leatherman, DO. Each of them have a wealth of knowledge and are excellent additions to the CMH-OHSU collaboration. Welcome, new radiologists Getting to know our CMO Christopher Strear, MD, started as chief medical officer in June. Dr. Strear has been an Emergency physician for nearly 20 years. He still works monthly shifts in the CMH Emergency Department. His other tasks are largely administrative, directing service organization to deliver quality, safe care. Dr. Strear manages quality metrics and goals, ensuring high patient satisfaction. He is a provider liaison and leader. As a peer, he knows what it’s like to be in their shoes. He advocates for their needs, helping their practices grow. With the recent provider employment transition, he arrived at a great time. Strategist, director, innovator It’s exciting to have a physician on CMH’s Executive Leadership Team. Dr. Strear has impressive experience as a strategist, director and innovator. He plays a big part in the OHSU collaboration, and he helps recruit and train providers and determine future services. One of Dr. Strear’s first tasks was to conduct a “listening tour” with providers, caregivers and leaders, getting to know CMH and OHSU better. If you see him, please welcome him to the area. We are glad he’s here! Kenneth Kolbeck, MD, PhD Since 2019, Dr. Kolbeck had worked part-time at CMH. He is now full- time, performing diagnostics and interventional procedures. He is also the medical director for Imaging. Dr. Kolbeck worked at OHSU’s Dotter Interventional Institute for 15 years. He earned his PhD and medical degree from the University of Illinois and completed a radiology residency and interventional radiology fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is board-certified in diagnostic, vascular and interventional radiology. Dr. Kolbeck’s medical interests include interventional radiology and oncology, liver cancer, inferior vena cava filters and peripheral vascular disease. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time outside. Shane Baker, MD Dr. Baker is a board- certified diagnostic radiologist who moved here from Utah. He is our lead interpreting physician on our MQSA license for breast imaging. He also performs some interventional radiology procedures. Dr. Baker attended the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle and completed his residency at Indiana University/Purdue University of Indiana in Indianapolis. Dr. Baker is looking forward to small-town life. When he isn’t working, he enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, backpacking, boating, fishing, scuba diving and traveling. Robert Leatherman, DO Dr. Leatherman is a board-certified diagnostic radiologist who moved here from Maine. He is the lead interpreting physician for our American College of Radiology accreditation on 1.5T and 3.0T MRIs. Dr. Leatherman attended medical school at Nova Southeastern University and completed his residency at Garden City Hospital in Michigan. He also finished a neuroradiology fellowship at William Beaumont Hospital. Dr. Leatherman lived in Oregon in the past, doing research with OHSU. He is excited to practice good medicine with CMH and OHSU, treating each patient like family.
