Columbia Memorial | Health Compass | Fall 2019

2 HEALTH COMPASS FALL 2019 CMH is heading to the beach By Erik Thorsen, CEO I have spent the past year visiting civic groups and meeting with community leaders to talk about the soon-to-be-opened CMH Medical Group–Seaside. The question I am most often asked is, “Why Seaside?” The answer is pretty simple— because there’s a need and CMH can fill it. Columbia Memorial Hospital (CMH) and the CMH Medical Group already serve thousands of patients a year from Gearhart, Seaside, Cannon Beach and even farther south. These folks often take extra time off from work or away from their families to travel to CMH for care. By opening a clinic in Seaside, we hope to make taking care of your health easier and more convenient. The Seaside clinic will offer a wide variety of services in one location, including a medical clinic, lab and imaging services, and the CMH Community Pharmacy. It will be open seven days a week, with early morning and evening hours. Plus the Community Pharmacy will offer prescription delivery throughout Seaside. Please join me for this issue of CMH Health Compass to meet Seaside’s favorite pharmacist, Jeff Chow, and some of the local artists who are helping to create an uplifting and healing environment in the new clinic. Inside at Seaside Construction is underway on the new CMH Medical Group–Seaside. The planned opening is January 2020 in the Seaside Outlet Mall. CMH Health Compass sat down with CMH Medical Group Director Jeanette Schacher to learn more. What’s your role in building the new clinic in Seaside? As the Medical Group Director, I am the project lead for the new clinic in Seaside. I’m working to coordinate design, construction, operations and clinical teams to ensure we are open and ready to serve the community in January. What makes this clinic unique? When we first started designing the CMH Medical Group–Seaside, we looked to the clinic in Warrenton as a model. However, with just a few months to go before we open the doors to patients, I am confident that this clinic will exceed our original expectations. This clinic is probably best described as a “health center” for people of all ages, because it will offer such a wide variety of services. We are currently hiring pediatric, urgent care, primary care, women’s health, and pharmacy providers for the center. Down the road, we also hope to offer appointments with other specialists on a rotating basis. What other services will the Seaside location offer? In addition to primary and urgent care, pediatrics, and women’s health, CMH Medical Group–Seaside will provide virtual care, lab tests, x-rays and ultrasounds. We’ll also have a Take a virtual tour of the new CMH Medical Group–Seaside at columbiamemorial.org/seaside . community health resource desk to help people find organizations that manage nonmedical issues, like safe housing and food security. The CMH Community Pharmacy will also be located at the center. Tell me more about the pharmacy. Well, the CMH Community Pharmacy will be right there to fill prescriptions, so if you’re feeling ill, you don’t need to run to yet another place. But I think the best part about the pharmacy are the things they’ll do to make your life easier. If you have several prescriptions, they’ll work with you and your insurance company to get them all on the same schedule so you can pick them all up at the same time. Or, better yet, if you live or work in Seaside, you can have them delivered! That sounds great! It is! We are really excited to become part of the Seaside community. We want to make it easy for our neighbors and visitors to get quality medical care when and where they need it. Above are artist renderings of the primary care waiting area with the concierge desk and the entrance to the pharmacy in the new Seaside clinic.
