COLUMBIAMEMORIAL.ORG Fall 2026 5 Clinical study explores test to help detect cancer sooner The REACH Study is being offered at CMH. This study, conducted by the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute in Portland, aims to see if a simple blood test can find cancer early. The test was developed by GRAIL Inc., a health care company dedicated to detecting cancer early. Its test, called the Galleri or multi-cancer early detection (MCED) test, can detect DNA “signals” from more than 50 cancers before symptoms start to appear. The Cancer Collaborative in Astoria is among five Oregon enrollment locations for the REACH Study. What to expect The study is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Participants typically receive their results within 30 days of their appointment. The blood test is not intended to replace cancer screening tests your provider may recommend, such as a colonoscopy or mammogram. You can join the REACH Study if you: ● Are insured by Medicare or Medicare Advantage ● Are age 50 or older ● Have never been diagnosed with cancer or have been cancer-free at least three years You are not eligible if you have had a previous MCED test and received the results of that test.
