We seek comfort, connection, dignity and peace. Hospice care focuses on alleviating pain and optimizing quality of life for terminally ill patients and their families. As the only hospice care provider in Clatsop County, Lower Columbia Hospice serves about 200 patients and families a year— about half of all the people who die in Clatsop County each year. “As my family learned, having a loved one in hospice can be a sad, yet beautiful and life-affirming, experience,” says Katie Bulletset, of care. Many, like Bulletset’s family team, participate in memory of a loved one who has passed away. Often, they’ve seen firsthand the comfort and ease that hospice care brings. The race starts at the Peter Iredale Shipwreck in Fort Stevens State Park and ends with a bonfire on the beach, sandwiches from Subway, and beer from Fort George and Buoy Beer. Your race entry fee benefits hospice patients directly. Proceeds go to a variety of funds, including the Larry Peterson Fund for patients in financial need, which can be used to cover necessary expenses such as heating and electric bills, a toilet riser, or a power wheelchair. Alleviating these additional burdens makes all the difference in helping patients feel safe and comfortable in their homes. Come join the fun and lend a hand. Sign up to walk or run at racetothebar.com. Seaside, Oregon. “We believe hospice is an essential service that can support people through an incredibly difficult part of life.” Honor a loved one Through fundraisers like the Race to the Bar 5K/10K and gifts from donors, Lower Columbia Hospice accepts all patients, regardless of their ability to pay. You can support hospice care in Clatsop County and enjoy an evening at the beach on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the seventh annual Race to the Bar. This uplifting, family-friendly event raises money for dignified, end-of-life
