Sarah Humphrey, MD Obstetrician-Gynecologist, CMH Women’s Center Start date: August 2018 In August, board-eligible Obstetrician- Gynecologist Sarah Humphrey, MD, moved to Astoria with her husband (a physical therapist at CMH) and their infant son. “We wanted to come to a smaller place,” she says. “We spent the last four years in Seattle, and that wasn’t for us.” Fifteen years ago, when Dr. Humphrey was a college student in Portland, her parents moved to nearby Naselle, Washington, after years of teaching overseas. She spent several summers working in Astoria and Seaside during those years, so coming to Astoria feels like coming home, she says. Dr. Humphrey earned her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin– Madison, School of Medicine and Public Health at Madison and completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Washington. Her medical interests include contraception, abnormal uterine bleeding, miscarriage management, pregnancy complications, high-risk and healthy pregnancies, and minimally invasive surgery. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, swimming and taking her dogs for walks. Bright Beginnings By Erik Thorsen, CEO January always puts me in a thoughtful frame of mind— reflecting on what we’ve accomplished in the past year and looking forward to a bright future ahead. As Columbia Memorial Hospital marked its 138th year of service in 2018, the CMH-OHSU Knight Cancer Collaborative completed its first. Within a few months of opening the Cancer Collaborative, it was clear how necessary this service was in our region. The Cancer Collaborative cared for more than 1,250 people in 2018, which was far more than we anticipated for its first year. In 2018, we expanded access to primary care by opening a second CMH Primary Care Clinic in Astoria and brought to the Columbia coast region the latest in 3-D mammography technology. We also welcomed 12 new physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants to CMH. Please join me for this issue of Health Compass as we share the stories of five long-time caregivers from Imaging Services, who have served our community for a collective 150 years, and introduce five of our newest medical providers, including local Primary Care Physician Aaron Brown, DO. Amber Hull, DO Pediatrician, CMH Pediatric Clinic Start date: October 2018 As a doctor of osteopathy student, Amber Hull, DO, was named Student DO of the Year by the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine. Reflecting on her chosen profession, she wrote, “We have the capacity, through our words and actions, to have an impact on the lives of the patients we serve in ways that may not be immediately apparent.” Now, as a board-certified pediatrician, Dr. Hull does her best to practice what she preaches when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. In her free time, she enjoys a variety of adventures outdoors, traveling, cooking and spending time with her beagle. She received her medical degree from Midwestern University–Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, followed by a pediatrics residency at the Sinai Hospital of Baltimore with the Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital, and a neonatal-perinatal fellowship with Doernbecher Children’s Hospital at Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Hull’s medical interests include newborn care, child development, sports medicine and autism spectrum disorders. She also likes well-child and routine patient visits, seeing healthy kids, and watching them grow. Find your new healt 2 HEALTH COMPASS WINTER 2019
